Check it fits your tractor
Three things decide whether an attachment will go on:
- Horsepower: every listing gives the recommended hp range. With a heavy load on the back, a light tractor goes light on the front axle, so fit front weights.
- Linkage category: Cat 1 is for small and compact tractors, Cat 2 for mid-size tractors. Some attachments come with pins for both.
- Lower link spacing: the distance between the two lower links of your linkage. Measure it on your tractor and check it against the minimum and maximum on the listing: if the arms won't close in or open out far enough, it won't hitch up.
Pallet forks or bale spikes
Pallet forks have flat tines, adjustable in width, for lifting pallets; bale spikes have steel spikes for carrying round bales and square bales of hay and straw. They do different jobs, and neither replaces a forklift. Pallet forks also come with a Euro hitch, to fit the front loader on your tractor or a mini loader.
Rear bucket or link box
A tipping rear bucket scoops and levels loose soil, gravel and snow, then tips out. A link box has higher sides, holds far more and is built for shifting material, logs and kit where a trailer won't go.
Hydraulic cranes
The crane fits the 3-point linkage and runs off the tractor's hydraulics to lift loads of up to 200 kg, its rated load. The jib extends to reach the load and the support legs keep it steady.
Trailers
For road work you need a road-legal agricultural trailer with the right paperwork. In fields, yards and tight gateways, a link box is often the handier option.
Frequently asked questions
What horsepower does my tractor need?
It depends on the attachment: every listing shows the recommended hp range. Smaller buckets and boxes suit compact tractors; cranes and larger boxes need more power.
How do I know it'll fit my tractor?
Check your linkage category and measure the spacing between the two lower link pins: it must sit between the minimum and maximum on the listing.
Will my tractor's linkage lift it?
Your linkage lift capacity must exceed the weight of the attachment plus the load. You'll find it in your tractor handbook.
Can I dig with a rear bucket?
In loose soil, turf, gravel and snow, yes. On hard ground the bucket tends to bounce: you'll need a heavy tractor, ballast and four-wheel drive.
How much will a hydraulic crane lift?
Up to 200 kg, its rated load, which must never be exceeded.
What's included and how is it delivered?
Pins, linch pins and, on hydraulic models, the hoses and couplings are included. Everything comes packed on a pallet and is delivered by tail-lift lorry.
